  • Graves Pools & Spas will host Backyard Splash Bash on Saturday, May 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 132 Leisure Lane, Myrtle Beach, featuring food trucks, family activities, giveaways, raffles, and event-only backyard setups (the YMCA of Coastal Carolina will discuss water safety and fundraising for swim programs).  WFXB Fox TV
  • A Virginia nonprofit partnered with Ryan Homes and Roc Solid Foundation to build a safe backyard playground for 3-year-old Millie Black in Little River as she battles leukemia, giving her a germ-free space to play and offering much-needed support for her family during treatment.  WMBF News
  • John Yannessa threw the first pitch at Wednesday’s Pelicans game to honor Ava Holland, a Horry County teen whose organ donation saved four lives and gave her friend a healthier future.   • Business leaders in South Carolina say worker shortages driven by current immigration policies & decreased migration are impacting restaurants, construction and hospitality.   • Horry County Schools board met on Wednesday, Apr. 29 at the District Office in Conway to discuss reducing screen time and balancing technology use in classrooms. Superintendent Clifford Jones and board members emphasized limiting devices for early grades to boost learning.  My Horry News
  • Dr. Marilyn Fore, soon-to-retire president of HGTC, celebrated 51 years of leadership & outlined expansion plans that include a new partnership with Horry County Schools and McLeod Hospital to offer certified nursing courses starting this fall. Her tenure grew student enrollment from 500 to nearly 10,000 across multiple campuses.  WMBF News

  • Friends of the Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve is hosting the first Flytraps Festival in Conway from May 7 to May 10 — the event will feature a 5K run, conservation fair, and guided tours to show wild Venus flytraps that naturally grow in the preserve.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Myrtle Beach City Council is considering free beach wheelchairs for residents and visitors after Adaptive Surf Project CEO Luke Sharp offered to donate up to 10 chairs and beach matting to improve access. HEALTH NEWS

  • Jessica Lowery discussed The Power of Elderberries’ antioxidant-rich formula and its wellness benefits, inviting locals to visit the shop at 3852 South Kings Hwy (Glenmark Shopping Plaza) from Tuesday to Thursday, 9 AM to 2 PM across from Myrtle Beach State Park.  WFXB Fox TV
  • MUSC Health plans to partner with local hospitals to bring increased cancer services to the Grand Strand, including chemotherapy, radiation, and clinical trials. A new 600,000-sqft cancer center in Charleston will develop over the next year to meet growing demand.  WMBF News
  • A 6-year-old girl became the first in South Carolina to receive a partial heart transplant using living donor valves that grow with her after weeks of declining energy; the nine-hour surgery took place in March at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, and she is now recovering at home.  WMBF News
