COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, April 26, dozens of dragon boats with 20 paddlers and one drummer each raced at The Market Common in Myrtle Beach while hundreds enjoyed live music, food and vendors. The festival raised funds for Ground Zero, which provides youth with faith-based support — competitors prepared the day before — and celebrated its 17th year.  WPDE

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A house on the 2000 block of Nichols Highway in Aynor sustained heavy fire damage Saturday night when Horry County Fire Rescue arrived at 9:07 p.m.—no injuries were reported, the cause remains under investigation, and six displaced residents received assistance from the American Red Cross.  WPDE
  • A home on the 1000 block of J C Drive in Longs sustained damage after a structure fire on Sunday - Horry County Fire Rescue said the living room bore most of the damage, no one was hurt, and the cause is under investigation while the American Red Cross aids displaced residents.  WPDE
  • A Grand Strand man whose cousins were involved in a fatal wreck on Thursday spoke with WMBF News on Saturday—he said the incident is in God's hands as authorities continue their investigation.  WMBF News

CRIME NEWS

  • Myrtle Beach Police said an officer discharged his weapon during a late-night disturbance on Ocean Boulevard Saturday, April 26 (he was unharmed) while SLED and MBPD review the incident (more details to come).  My Horry News

  • The Seacoast Artists Guild held its biannual festival across the street from its gallery at Valor Park to showcase local talent with handmade items such as sea glass art, wooden bowls, woven sweetgrass, and jewelry—this event has been organized twice a year for over a decade and the guild will host the next festival in September.  WPDE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Volunteers met at Lewis Ocean Preserve for a cleanup event organized by Friends of Lewis Ocean Preserve — in partnership with Keep Horry County Beautiful — to help protect its unique Venus flytrap habitat. Supplies were provided and community members from Carolina Forest, Coastal Carolina University, and local high schools joined the effort.  WPDE
