- ➤ The Ole Irish Pub on Withers Drive in Myrtle Beach faces a federal lawsuit for playing copyrighted songs such as "Family Tradition" without a proper license—Broadcast Music Inc. and eight other companies seek an order to stop the public performance and recover damages. BMI said it contacted the pub over 50 times since May 2022 to explain the legal requirements. The Post and Courier

- ➤ A 29-year-old man named Marquise Williams was arrested on April 21 after allegedly firing multiple rounds in the parking lot of the South Bay Inn on April 2, with witnesses reporting he ran toward Kings Highway and police later recovering shell casings at the South Bay Inn and neighboring Days Inn as well as a firearm behind the Summer Sands motel—Williams faces charges of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon with a $50,000 bond. - ➤ North Myrtle Beach police arrested 27-year-old Gerzon Lainez on Sunday after he led a high-speed chase on Highway 17—he hit a curb and traffic cone, fled through a pancake house lot and a dirt road near Grand Strand Airport, and was stopped with a Taser, facing charges for DUI, driving under suspension and resisting arrest. - ➤ The 13th Annual Socastee Heritage Festival will be held Saturday April 26 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Peachtree Road from the Sarvis House property to Hwy 707/Socastee Blvd—entry is free—and it is organized by the Socastee Heritage Foundation to support community events. WFXB Fox TV
- ➤ North Myrtle Beach High School Drama Department will present Grease this spring with performances on May 2nd, May 3rd, May 4th, May 9th, May 10th, and May 11th (show times include 7 p.m. and 2 p.m.), as Manny and Reilly previewed the production in a studio interview. WFXB Fox TV

- ➤ County officials said Horry County bought over 3,500 acres in 2018 for controlled burns but had not burned any of the land until a wildfire in early March spread over 2,059 acres, including 1,100 of county land. Firefighters slowed the blaze with work breaks and rainfall—and county leaders now plan to burn the remaining land to better manage wildfire risks. The Post and Courier
- ➤ The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services will begin seasonal water quality monitoring on May 1 and will test water samples weekly or bi-weekly from SC beaches until Oct.30. Officials will issue short-term swimming advisories if tests detect high Enterococci bacteria levels — a measure to protect public health. WMBF News
