ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 16-year-old rescued a driver from a burning car after it crashed into a tree at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday on Highway 544 (Sandy Pines Lane) and stayed until EMS arrived.  WMBF News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ron Daise (famed cultural interpreter) will host two presentations at Brookgreen Gardens next month to explore Gullah Geechee traditions that shaped soul food and farming methods. His talks will help locals learn about lasting African heritage practices.  WPDE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Marilyn Fore (nicknamed Murph) announced her retirement as HGTC's president. The college will plan a leadership transition and is expected to name a successor soon.  WPDE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The state’s water-dropping planes reached a wildfire near Red Wolf Trail and North Shore Drive in Carolina Forest on Tuesday to protect local structures. Officials said the planes (which drop about 800 gallons per pass) helped dozers form a fire line around homes, businesses, and a school.  WMBF News
  • Golf courses in Horry County are showing signs of severe drought today as minimal rainfall and low humidity cause yellowing greens and turf breakage; managers are turning to irrigation and wetting agents to slow damage.  WMBF News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Senate voted today to remove the $1 million liquor liability insurance requirement, a change that could relieve bars+restaurants of rising costs while many still plan to keep coverage. The House must still approve the measure before it goes into effect.  WPDE

HEALTH NEWS

  • During Autism Awareness Month, advocates report rising autism diagnoses and gaps in care as families face long wait times and few local specialists. Lawmakers are reviewing House Bill 3974, which would allow private therapy providers to work directly in schools to better support students.  WPDE

  • Actor Kurt Russell, tennis legend John McEnroe, and others will join the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic Pro-Am next month at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club. The Wednesday Pro-Am offers tee times on resort tees (Nos. 1 and 10) from 6:40 to 8:52 a.m. and noon to 2:12 p.m.  WMBF News
