  • A cornhole tournament at the Grand Strand raised money for the Myrtle Beach Police K-9 unit as local players came together to support the cause + the event highlighted community teamwork.  WMBF News
  • People were locked inside kennels at the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach on Saturday for its sixth Annual Kennel Lock-In Fundraiser, which raised funds to support shelter operations and encourage animal adoptions as visitors spent hours with the animals and completed challenges.  WMBF News

  • A Myrtle Beach author shared the lessons she learned from writing her debut children’s book Olli’s Cave of Treasures on Good Morning Carolinas today (explaining her creative process for young readers).  WPDE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. James High School is proposing a new class called Aviation 1: Introduction to Aviation, approved by the Horry County Board on April 20. Pending State Department approval, the course could launch in Fall 2026 & offer students career paths in flight, mechanics, and drone operations.  My Horry News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Earth Day will be on Wednesday and local waste officials urge residents to recycle items like glass, paper, and pizza boxes (tips include rinsing containers and flattening cardboard) to reduce waste and protect the environment.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Georgetown County leaders unveiled a master plan for Wachesaw Park that will add a trail, dog park, and multipurpose courts while removing one baseball field to allow more inclusive use. Phase 1 renovations will start this year at the Murrells Inlet park, with additional improvements planned later.  WMBF News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 2026 World's Strongest Man competition will take place from April 23-26 at Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion Place with qualifying rounds on Thursday and Friday and championship rounds on Saturday and Sunday while a fan fest area offers food trucks and merchandise vendors for those without competition tickets.  My Horry News
