  • The annual Palmetto Police Motorcycle Skills Competition is taking place today and tomorrow at the Myrtle Beach Mall parking lot, where about 85 public safety and retired riders will ride three courses that mimic everyday obstacles to raise money for Camp Happy Days—an organization that supports children with cancer. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Horry County Fire Rescue responded (5:48 a.m.) on Thursday morning to a crash on Highway 501 between West Perry Road and Legends Road that seriously injured a pedestrian and blocked traffic while the South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated.  WMBF News
  • Horry County Fire Rescue is advising drivers to avoid Highway 501 between West Perry Road and Legends Road after a pedestrian wreck left critical injuries—officials are also cautioning motorists to steer clear of Carolina Forest Boulevard and Stoney Falls Boulevard following a two-vehicle crash with a utility pole.  WPDE
  • A crash involving a pedestrian occurred Thursday morning around 6 a.m. on Highway 501 between West Perry Road and Legends Road—Horry County Fire Rescue reported critical injuries while the South Carolina Highway Patrol began an investigation.  WFXB Fox TV

  • Timothy Pearl, a 46-year-old from Myrtle Beach, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to trafficking crack-cocaine and possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute and was sentenced to 10 years in prison–with at least 85 percent of his term to be served.  WMBF News
  • A police report states that an assault on a pregnant woman led to a standoff in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday — investigators are gathering more details.  WMBF News

  • Dr. Alex McFarland will host a speaker series in North Myrtle Beach called "Conversations That Matter" that aims to bring thought leaders together and challenge Christians to engage in critical, well-informed thinking. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Souvenir shop owners in Myrtle Beach fear new tariffs on Chinese goods will soon push prices higher—raising concerns that tourists may buy fewer mementos. Managers said items like small sand chairs could cost about $18 instead of under $10 and that they are looking for local suppliers to help keep costs down.  The Post and Courier

  • On Thursday, HTC celebrated 25 years of REEL Kids by inviting nominated students from across Horry County to a Medieval Times event—where they shared leadership stories and enjoyed a royal feast.  WPDE
  • Horry Georgetown Technical College held an open house on Wednesday at its Grand Strand campus to highlight nursing and health science programs for local students. College officials said the event gave visitors a chance to ask professors questions (including details on transfer opportunities with local high schools) and that another open house for Georgetown Nursing and Associated Healthcare Sciences will be held in June.  WPDE
