- ➤ Volunteers are busy preparing for the Shadow Bay Celtic Festival this weekend in Socastee to raise funds for Caleb's Dragonfly Dreams, a local charity event supporting community initiatives. WPDE
- ➤ Conway Parks & Rec has opened a new playground at the Billy Gardner Recreation Complex on 1515 Mill Pond Road; the park features slides, a castle-themed climbing structure, and open space for kids to play (donated by Hop N' Wich and Grumpy Monk). My Horry News
- ➤ The 8th annual Touch-a-Truck event hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department is at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex Saturday from 10am to 2pm. - ➤ The Better Business Bureau warned today that fake passport renewal websites use slightly misspelled URLs and government logos to trick travelers into giving personal details. - ➤ The WPDE ABC15 News team has been honored with three Southeast Emmy nominations. The awards ceremony will be held on May 16 in Atlanta and recognizes their excellence in local television as noted by the regional chapter. WPDE
- ➤ The Horry County Museum is opening a new exhibit on local Revolutionary War history (curator Abigail Geedy led the project) on Saturday, April 11 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.; admission is free. WPDE

- ➤ Fourth grade students at Waccamaw Elementary shine each week on The Weekly Roar, a newscast led by students that builds public speaking skills and classroom confidence. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Colorado State University forecasts a slightly below-average hurricane season with 13 named storms, 6 hurricanes, and 2 major hurricanes due to a developing El Niño that will raise wind shear + conditions. The season runs from June 1 through Nov. 30; however, even quiet seasons can still produce major impacts. WPDE
- ➤ First Alert Weather warns that a developing El Niño and above-normal waters may spark early, rapidly intensifying storms this hurricane season – starting June 1. Myrtle Beach residents are urged to review evacuation zones and gather supplies for their safety. WMBF News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The South Carolina Senate is considering Senate Bill 720 (which would require dog breeders to be licensed and meet new care standards) to better regulate puppy mills; local groups noted the bill is a promising first step even though North Myrtle Beach does not have commercial breeders. - ➤ Myrtle Beach City Council is considering a trial run for wind shades in residential areas during the peak summer season (discussed at a Tuesday workshop) before the Beach Advisory Committee presents a plan next week for a final decision. WMBF News
