COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 7th Annual Swing for the Cure for ALS Charity Golf Tournament will take place on Sunday, May 3 at Indigo Creek Golf Club in Murrells Inlet and features 18 holes, a light breakfast + BBQ lunch, and contests to raise funds for ALS research.   • Conway has been named a finalist for the All-America City Award that honors civic engagement and collaboration. City officials said representatives will travel to Denver this summer — June 26–28 — to present their work to a panel of national civic leaders.  My Horry News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Horry County Fire Rescue responded Tuesday evening to a shed fire on Silver Moon Court near Duck Cove Road and Highway 905 outside Conway, and officials reported the incident is now under control with no injuries + one lane of Highway 905 remains blocked.  WPDE

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Food Lion will build a new 37,000 sqft grocery store at 3425 US 501 in Conway, located across from Tractor Supply Company. The project, part of a larger development with over 10 acres and 4,000+ residential units planned, is expected to open in early 2028.  My Horry News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The six-story-tall World’s Largest Rubber Duck (Mama Duck) returns to Myrtle Beach at Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion Place on May 1-2 after weather issues shortened last May's display during National Water Safety Month. Organized by the YMCA of Coastal Carolina with local partners, the event is expected to delight families.  WFXB Fox TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The SC Forestry Commission issued a statewide Red Flag Fire Alert effective today at 6:00 a.m. that urges residents to postpone outdoor burning as dry + windy conditions and a worsening drought raise wildfire risk.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Over 90 residents attended a public hearing on April 2 and questioned Horry County’s plan to expand its landfill by filling 100 acres of wetlands to handle waste for 45 years; Council members have not approved funding and will review alternatives plus accept comments until April 17.  The Post and Courier
  • Myrtle Beach City Council updated plans to brighten a stretch of Ocean Boulevard (9th to 16th Ave) at a cost reduced from $410,000 to about $105,000. Installation will cause early morning closures for about a week and is expected to finish between May and June.  WPDE

  • Julian Brown, a Myrtle Beach High School junior, cleared 2.24 meters in the high jump at the Beach Run Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 4 and now leads the nation—ranking 15th all-time in high school track history.  WPDE
