  • The town of Surfside Beach is hosting a contest to design a new fishing pier logo with entries accepted until March 31st; the winner will receive a free annual fishing pass + a plaque with their name. Contestants must be 18 and avoid AI-generated designs, and the pier committee will choose the top five entries before the town council picks the final winner.  My Horry News
  • Organizers of Myrtle Beach’s annual spring cleanup are calling on local volunteers to help with the event this weekend — the initiative will keep community spaces clean.  WMBF News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Horry County Fire Rescue said a two-vehicle crash involving a utility pole blocked traffic near Carolina Forest Boulevard and Stoney Falls Boulevard and the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident since crews were dispatched at 6:55 a.m.—no one was taken to the hospital.  WPDE

  • A Horry County judge imposed restrictions on the man who burned a cross to harass his Black neighbors in Conway+ the order is meant to prevent him from causing further nuisance incidents.  WMBF News
  • Myrtle Beach Police are investigating new evidence in the 2021 drowning death of Chris Skinner, a 41-year-old quadriplegic whose family and witness accounts have prompted a renewed review+as details emerge from when he accidentally fell into a neighborhood pool on Sept. 6+.  The Post and Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Horry County Schools superintendent Clifford Jones led a budget meeting on March 24 where staff presented plans for the upcoming school year that include a one-time $200,000 request for an artificial intelligence tool to help teachers plan and grade. The proposal also allocates funds for two new elementary schools with construction on schedule for an August opening and a salary increase for educators, with a final vote planned in May.  My Horry News
  • Coastal Carolina University's associate athletic director Alise Svihla died on Sunday after fighting cancer since October 2022—she started a new student-athlete development program in January and launched a sports event for National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The school later renamed its student-athlete department in her honor and said memorial details will be announced when available.  WPDE

  • Attorney General Alan Wilson advised South Carolinians to consider deleting their 23andMe accounts to protect their personal data—his warning comes after the company filed for bankruptcy which might lead to the transfer or sale of sensitive information.  WPDE
