BUSINESS NEWS

  • A Kansas business leader, Matt Pivarnik from the Greater Topeka Partnership, was hired as the new CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce on March 21 after a nearly nine-month search—he will begin work mid-May when he and his wife Wendy move to the Grand Strand.  The Post and Courier
  • Scooter's Coffee will open its first drive-thru kiosk in Conway on March 25, offering a range of coffee, tea and energy-based drinks. The new location near Conway High School will operate daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. – designed for quick service.  My Horry News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local native Darley Newman, host of PBS series Travels with Darley, is filming Season 13 in Myrtle Beach—where she will share hidden gems and travel advice for future trips; the show will launch on PBS this winter.  WFXB Fox TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Leah German, a first grade teacher at Palmetto Bays Elementary School, was named the February Teacher of the Month by Window World. She was honored for her caring nature and the disciplined classroom environment she has built for her students.  My Horry News
  • The February 2025 Beazer Homes Student of the Month is 17-year-old Tanner Gaddy from Myrtle Beach High School. He was recognized for strong academics, varsity sports, and club involvement — and he plans to study engineering in college.  My Horry News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Myrtle Beach prosecutor Katie Owens was diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis last summer and now continues to lead in the courtroom as her legal colleagues and police support her by helping with daily work tasks—demonstrating a strong, supportive team.  My Horry News
  • Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune launched her reelection campaign Thursday night with support from local leaders — including Congressman Russell Fry, Horry County Statehouse delegation members, Senator Greg Hembree and Senator Stephen Goldfinch—and over 200 local supporters attended the event; she, first elected in 2017 as the city’s first female mayor, will now run against Mark Kruea, who entered the race last week.  WPDE
