COMMUNITY NEWS

  • New Directions of Horry County held its 10th Compassion for Fashion event Friday in Myrtle Beach, raising $150K to support programs and a planned women's shelter on Mr. Joe White Avenue. Designer Jeneen Scirocco showcased a gown made from crocheted trash bags and bottle caps.  WMBF News
  • Two Men and a Truck Myrtle Beach is hosting its 11th annual Movers for Moms campaign through May 5, collecting care items for New Directions of Horry County to help those recovering from hardships. Donations are accepted at several local sites including Mt. Olive American Church and Talk 94.5 Radio.  WFXB Fox TV

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Horry County Fire Rescue responded at 12:15 p.m. to a house fire near Crown Meadows Drive in the Longs area where a dog was rescued and significant home damage occurred; one person was treated for smoke inhalation without being transported, and drivers are urged to avoid the area (traffic remains blocked).  WMBF News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Visit Myrtle Beach is helping film crews shoot a movie along the Grand Strand to boost local production and support hotels, restaurants, and jobs; a new website will launch later this year to offer filming resources (which may also attract visitors).  WMBF News
  • Carolina Country Music Fest will host its first cornhole tournament as part of the fest — partnering with the American Cornhole Association to offer $5,000 in prizes including Super VIP upgrades at the Main Stage. Tickets are required and competitors must sign up for their preferred event days.  WMBF News
  • Flynn's Irish Tavern is preparing for the 36th annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival today in North Myrtle Beach as local organizers and businesses set up a festive celebration honoring Irish heritage. The event will feature lively activities and vendors.  WPDE

  • Coastal Carolina University installed its new president, James J. Winebreak, during a medallion ceremony in Conway on Friday morning. He began his role in July and is working to boost academic programs, research, community engagement and student support.  WPDE
