COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, residents questioned a shift at New Directions shelter that now accommodates 40-50 men (replacing its 22-bed limit), and Mayor Kruea said city leaders are holding discussions to boost homelessness support.  WPDE
  • Joye Law Firm will offer $25 free Uber vouchers to local residents during Saint Patrick's Day weekend to help reduce impaired driving. The promotion is open to South Carolinians throughout the holiday weekend.  WPDE

CULTURE NEWS

  • City officials will rename the Nance Plaza stage after a late Myrtle Beach artist to honor local creativity. The planned change reflects a community effort to celebrate the area's cultural legacy.  WPDE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Horry County Schools finished the first phase of baseball and softball field renovations at Conway High and Aynor High over the offseason, with new seating, netting, and drainage systems ready for the spring sports season. The upgrades are part of a multi-year project to improve facilities across the district.  My Horry News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local officials hired Coastal Asphalt to resurface Surfside Drive plus nearby parking lots and streets in Surfside Beach. Work began March 9 and will finish on March 15 and 16, and drivers are asked not to park on active roads.  My Horry News
  • Surfside Beach leaders voted today to support a controversial expansion of the Horry County landfill. The council will send a letter to the Army Corps (boosting its approval process) for the plan to add over 400 acres near Sterritt Swamp and wetlands.  WPDE
  • State troopers will patrol Myrtle Beach during the spring and summer months to boost safety for residents + visitors. The patrol schedule is set to begin in spring and continue through the busy summer season.  WPDE

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Construction has begun at Coastal Centre in Conway as part of a redevelopment project led by Rise Partners. The project will add anchor tenants and boost local shopping options this spring or summer.  WPDE

  • The 11th annual South Carolina High School Rodeo will be held this weekend in Horry Co — featuring bull riding, barrel racing and steer wrestling — as local high schools showcase their skills.  WPDE
  • Tidal Creek Brewhouse is hosting the Leprechaun Dash 5K in Market Common on Saturday at 6:30 a.m. (Knoles Street) as runners wear green and costumes for a St. Patrick’s Day weekend celebration.  WFXB Fox TV
