- ➤ Today, after years of planning and fundraising, the Grand Strand Humane Society broke ground on a 34,000 sqft facility along Waterside Drive — the new shelter will have exam rooms, surgical suites for neutering, vaccination rooms, and outdoor yards, with construction beginning today and finishing next summer. - ➤ New Directions men's shelter passed its annual inspection in November with the Lowcountry Food Bank reporting no deficiencies despite some patrons raising concerns about food safety.
