EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new charter school will open this fall in Myrtle Beach to offer middle and high school students a career-focused curriculum, giving them a chance to explore different career paths before graduation.  WMBF News
  • Myrtle Beach High School reopened its athletic director search on Monday, Feb. 23, with applications closing March 4. Interim AD Joe Quigley will serve through the 2025–26 school year before a new hire takes over (third attempt).  My Horry News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Starting today at 9:30 a.m., International Drive between Highway 90 and Red Wolf Trail will close for a controlled burn at Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve (a measure to manage wildfire risks). The closure may last until Feb. 26, and alternative routes include U.S. 501 and SC 22.  The Post and Courier
  • Officials held an open house at the Sterritt Swamp site about a planned landfill expansion that will cover over 400 acres and fill 100 acres of wetlands — residents raised concerns about environmental impacts and stormwater runoff. The project awaits U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approval.  WPDE
