  • The new Ed Piotrowski Heart Month bobblehead is available now for local residents to collect, with proceeds supporting a worthy cause (details pending).  WPDE

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Amazon is building a new delivery center on Postal Way in Carolina Forest near the Wizard Golf Course — the 27-acre facility is under construction and will add local jobs with a traffic plan for direct access to Highway 501 during off-peak hours.  WPDE

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ripley’s Aquarium is hosting its Galentine’s Fin & Tonic Cocktail Class today from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in its shark tunnel, where guests may explore exhibits early and then enjoy cocktails, tapas, and time with friends.  WFXB Fox TV
  • Carolina Country Music Fest announced its Thursday kickoff lineup with Riley Green, Justin Moore, and Lauren Alaina to start the festival at Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion downtown. The festival runs June 4 to 7 next year, and 3-day ticket sales with Thursday are available until Feb. 27 midnight.  WMBF News
  • Dining with Dockery showcases new menu options at Lekker Eats on Robert Grissom Parkway, a local favorite for healthy dishes. Visitors who mention Halley will receive a special treat this week.  WMBF News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new study by the University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business finds HGTC generates a $504 million annual economic impact on the Grand Strand — boosting local business and workforce growth in Horry County.  WMBF News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new state program has reimbursed school districts for purchasing locally grown fruits, vegetables, grains and honey with $1 million in annual funding. Launched Friday and joined by 67 districts including Horry County Schools, the program now covers 874 cafeterias serving 538,066 students.  WMBF News
  • Neil James, who has served on the Horry County Board of Education since 2009, is not seeking reelection for District 10. Two candidates (former Moms for Liberty chapter chairman David Warner and longtime Loris High School band director Stephen Whisnant) will run in the June 9 primary.  My Horry News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials report that $13,000 has been raised for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, where life-sized soldier statues will be installed later this year (donations are tax-deductible and accepted at City Hall, 937 Broadway Street, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.).  WMBF News
  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers finished sand placement for North Myrtle Beach on Jan. 31 and is completing grading work for the Grand Strand Renourishment Project. Crews said work for Myrtle Beach Reach Two will begin within two weeks between 63rd and 52nd Avenues.  WMBF News
  • North Myrtle Beach parking registration is open for residents and non-residents who must show a North Myrtle Beach driver’s license and current vehicle or golf cart registration (non-residents must also provide proof of property ownership). Paid parking runs from March 1 to Oct. 31, and passes renew annually during office hours Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.  WFXB Fox TV

  • South Carolina Department of Public Health urged residents to adopt heart healthy habits during American Heart Month after 12,274 died of heart disease in 2023; National Wear Red Day on Feb. 6 promoted lifestyle changes (like better diets and quitting smoking) to reduce risk.  WPDE
