COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Senior Helpers of Murrells Inlet invites residents to create Valentine’s cards to help ease senior loneliness. The drive aims to collect 1,000+ cards by Feb. 9 for delivery to seniors in their homes and local facilities.  WFXB Fox TV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Surfside Beach Mayor Robert Krouse said the Surf Diner at the Surfside Beach Pier is expected to open in weeks as the diner now holds its occupancy certificate + is hiring staff. Locals express excitement over the return of a favorite spot near the beach.  WMBF News
  • Breeze Airways now offers nonstop flights from Myrtle Beach International Airport to Orlando; flights to Manchester will begin on Feb. 6. Orlando service runs on select days (Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays) with fares starting at $69 one-way.  The Post and Courier
  • The Olive Shoppe, known for its handcrafted olives, infused olive oils, and aged balsamic vinegars, will open its doors at 911 Third Avenue in downtown Conway on Friday, Feb. 20 — with a grand opening celebration planned for Friday, March 20.  My Horry News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local musician Jackson Truluck (a Midlands native) and his band will perform a high-energy Southern rock and blues show with covers and original songs on Feb. 7 from 8 to 11:30 p.m. at Dead Dog Saloon in Murrells Inlet as he works to grow his presence along the Grand Strand.  The Post and Courier
  • Survivor fans can join a scavenger hunt today at Brookgreen Gardens to search for a hidden immunity idol tied to the show’s 50th season (Brookgreen Gardens Marketing Director Lauren Joseph said the event will be controlled and relaxed) with gates opening at 9:30 a.m.  The Post and Courier

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Tourism in Myrtle Beach fell 3% in 2025, according to new data, and local business owners hope improved traffic plans and new attractions will bring more visitors in 2026. City leaders plan to add new lights on Ocean Boulevard & increase police patrols during the busy season.  WMBF News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Carolina Construction Academy, a new charter high school offering hands-on construction training, will open in August at 1900 Mr. Joe White Ave and is now accepting enrollment for grades 9-12. It will partner with local companies and share facilities with Morning Star Academy (a STEAM-focused K-8 school).  My Horry News
  • Coastal Carolina University will receive $2.4 million in federal funding secured by Senator Lindsey Graham to upgrade its nursing training at Conway Medical Center. The funds will boost simulation lab equipment and enhance hands-on training for nursing students.  WMBF News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New SNAP requirements took effect on Feb. 1 and have added pressure on many Horry County households, with families now needing to meet new work rules. United Way coordinators are working one-on-one with residents as those in seasonal hospitality and healthcare face challenges meeting the benchmarks.  WPDE

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Horry County Council approved an 8-4 vote for a 78-bed mental health hospital on Feb. 3, with construction scheduled to begin in March and finish early 2027 near Highway 707 and McDowell Shortcut Road (including security upgrades and more staff) to boost local care.  My Horry News
  • Tidelands Health will build a new women and children’s care center on its Carolina Bay Campus by Highway 31 and 707, offering OB/GYN care + pediatric services aligned with MUSC; funded by $5M secured by Senator Lindsey Graham, the center is set to open by late 2028 or early 2029.  WMBF News
