- ➤ Help4Kids in Horry County feeds over 3,000 children each week through the Souper Bowl of Caring hunger-relief initiative. Volunteers pack 32,000+ food bags to schools so kids have meals available over the weekend. WPDE
- ➤ Ability Beyond Barriers announced plans to expand its residential services by building community training homes in Horry County. The nonprofit said the homes will be completed in the coming months to help local residents. WMBF News

- ➤ After an energetic show at McEisley’s Tavern on Jan. 28, local band Star 69 will perform at Pawleys Island Tavern (the PIT) on Jan. 31 from 8 p.m. until midnight. The Post and Courier
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ District leaders in Horry County revealed a six-phase plan to replace Saint James Elementary with a new 1,200-student facility — main construction will begin roughly a year from today with completion expected in fall and a Feb. 5 meeting at 4 p.m. will let parents ask questions. WMBF News
- ➤ Horry County School Board Chairman David Cox said he will not seek reelection after 18 years of service (District 4). His decision signals a leadership transition in local education. WPDE
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Myrtle Beach is expected to see a wintry mix starting Jan. 30 that turns to snow by Jan. 31 morning with single-digit temperatures and winds of 20 — 30 mph. The National Weather Service advises residents to limit travel as the snowfall continues into Feb. 1. The Post and Courier

- ➤ Myrtle Beach officials confirmed that Arcadian Shores will be added to the U.S. Army Corps beach renourishment project, costing a total of $9.7 million split between the city & Horry County. Work in the area is set to begin in early March and take about one month. The Post and Courier
- ➤ Carolina Forest leaders launched a new initiative Monday to place burn ban signs at HOA entrances. State Rep Tim McGinnis and the Carolina Forest Civic Association hope the campaign will alert residents to fire risks (following last year's wildfire) and invite other HOAs to join the effort. - ➤ Melanie Wellons, vice chair of the Horry County Board of Education, announced her run for board chair after current chairman David Cox said he would not run. - ➤ Myrtle Beach Fire welcomed its new mental health dog (born to be a firefighter) to support crew members during stressful shifts. The dog will soon help the team manage demanding calls as it becomes an integral part of the department. WMBF News
- ➤ The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announced that starting Feb. 28 it will issue citations to drivers who use handheld devices on state roads to enforce the hands-free law. The measures aim to improve road safety for all. WPDE
