- ➤ City officials said Savannah’s Playground will reopen in the coming weeks after a $2.1M upgrade. New climbing wall, fitness equipment and an inclusive wheelchair swing have been installed as crews finish synthetic turf and landscaping — updating the beloved Myrtle Beach site. WMBF News
- ➤ On Saturday, Jan. 10, over 140 participants jumped into the ocean at Neal and Pam’s in Surfside Beach to raise $8,003 for Kind Keeper’s Animal Shelter. More than 1,000 spectators cheered on the plungers while enjoying chili and hot chocolate. My Horry News

- ➤ Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet celebrated the opening of an indoor garden (located at The Purdy Center) on Monday. The exhibit offers visitors a fresh way to enjoy diverse plant displays throughout the year. WPDE

- ➤ On Monday, Jan. 12, Horry County Schools named its 2025-26 Support Staff of the Year winners, one from each school, after peers nominated them for their dedication (care and professionalism). The announcement recognized key support staff across the district. My Horry News
- ➤ Horry County Schools purchased the Harbour View Golf Course property in Little River for $5.9 million after the Board of Education unanimously approved the deal on Monday, Jan. 12 — the 36.78-acre site includes a miniature course, an 18-hole par-3 course, a driving range and a foot golf course. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The proposed landfill expansion near Steritt Swamp may remove 100+ acres of wetlands that store stormwater, raising flood concerns. Residents can request a hearing with the Army Corps by Jan. 19 if 20 provide input (the county plans to add capacity for 23.4 million tons of waste over 45 years). WPDE
- ➤ Beekeepers and certified organic farm owners in Horry Co. (county) can now request zones without pesticide spray ahead of spring. Local officials will review applications to help protect bees and crops. WPDE

- ➤ Myrtle Beach is nearing completion of its $43 million 24th Avenue North Ocean Outfall project that installs two 84-inch stormwater pipes beneath the sand to reduce flooding. The project, begun in Oct. 2024 and now delayed, should finish by late winter or early spring (per Chris Miller). My Horry News

- ➤ Conway Medical Center received a $600K grant to make breast cancer diagnosis faster and more efficient. The hospital will add AI tools (like a second reader) and new biopsy equipment as soon as possible to improve patient care. WMBF News
