  • Local Venezuelan restaurant owner Argenis Rojo said the community is reacting with mixed emotions to Maduro’s capture, with relief at his fall and worry about Venezuela’s uncertain future.  WMBF News

  • A recent U-Haul report ranked Myrtle Beach third among the fastest-growing cities in 2025, reflecting strong local growth + planned business investments. Community leaders say the trend is expected to boost local opportunities this year.  WPDE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Cherry Grove are worried as a $72 million beach renourishment project overlooks the stretch north of 61st Avenue, where high tide shrinks the shore to 10 feet (raising concerns about erosion). The Army Corps of Engineers will assess the area and update locals on Friday.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Myrtle Beach appointed its first Public Arts Commission on Monday, Jan. 5 by unanimous vote, naming five members—including Jennifer Batten and Lauren Woodward—to serve four-year terms advising council and the Planning and Development Department on public art projects and grants.  My Horry News
  • Airport officials opened a new 50,000 sqft terminal with six gates and a restaurant on Dec. 1, responding to record passenger growth. The airport will begin phase one of a $160 million runway reconstruction in February 2026 using a temporary runway on the general aviation side.  My Horry News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Conway Medical Center reported a significant spike in flu cases in Horry County compared to last year. Health officials are now monitoring the rise to guide community health measures.  WPDE
  • Grand Strand Medical Center is undergoing construction upgrades and has temporarily shifted its emergency entrance to ensure prompt patient access. The change is in effect until the project is complete (updates will follow).  WPDE
