COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Coastal Carolina University is hosting its homecoming parade today in downtown Conway at 4pm, and the route starting and ending at Marine Drive — Elm Street will have roads reopening immediately after the event. The Chanticleers will meet Georgia State on Saturday in Brooks Stadium.  WFXB Fox TV
  • International seasonal workers arriving in Myrtle Beach now have a dedicated dorm-style facility at International Residence Hall with 300 beds, four per room—featuring a large kitchen, common area and laundry room. The privately run facility received tax incentives from the city and aims to teach J1 and H2B visa holders about American culture.  WPDE

  • SOHO will open a new location today at 95 McLeod Health Boulevard in Carolina Forest + the eatery plans to serve new dishes with live entertainment and a refreshed atmosphere featuring sushi, steak, pasta and seafood.  WFXB Fox TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • WonderWorks Myrtle Beach will honor National STEM Day on November 8 with interactive experiments and a new exhibit on STEM careers for families. The center at 1313 Celebrity Circle will offer hands-on sessions like the Soda Can Challenge and Mirage Maker — all included in regular admission.  WFXB Fox TV
  • The Field of Honor® display now features 250 historic American flags at Warbird Park in Myrtle Beach, inviting local visitors to view this tribute to America's heritage.  WMBF News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Horry County Schools reported strong results in the 2025 South Carolina School Report Cards at the Nov 3 Board meeting as Chief Academic Officer Lee James said 66.7% of the district's 57 schools were rated above average (16 excellent and 22 good) with the senior class graduation rate rising to 89.6%, which is above the state average. HCS students also outperformed statewide on the SAT with an average score of 1,033.  My Horry News
  • The Horry County Schools Board of Education approved a plan on Nov. 3 to replace the aging St. James Elementary School (in the Burgess area) with a 134,000-square-foot facility for 1,200 students, awarding the construction contract to Thompson Turner Construction of Sumter because the school’s building dates back to the 1950s. Design work will begin in January through fall 2026, construction will take 18 months, and the new school is set to open in August while the old school remains in use until phased demolition (the project budget is $66 million).  My Horry News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Myrtle Beach announced an expansion project for the Aquatic and Fitness Center that will add 31,000 square feet to renovate the facility. The project will include a 4,000 square-foot addition for stretching, an aerobics room, updated locker rooms, a gymnasium, youth areas, and extra parking — a move driven by over 5,200 current memberships.  WFXB Fox TV
  • A contracting crew struck a water line near West Cox Ferry Road on Thursday night and repair crews began fixing it, leaving several CCU off-campus apartments without water—air in the lines is normal after service is restored—while property managers said full water pressure should return soon.  WPDE
  • Myrtle Beach International Airport issued a statement on November 6 that its flights may be affected by a planned FAA 10% air traffic cut across 40 high-volume markets starting Friday morning+ officials urged travelers to check with their airlines for current updates.  WMBF News
