  • The Myrtle Beach Pelicans will host their annual trick-or-treat event at the ballpark during the Halloween season to offer a safe way for local children to celebrate, and organizers expect the event to draw many families.  WMBF News
  • Leah Scarmeas, the local Miss SC Teen USA, will compete for Miss Teen USA in Reno on Oct 17—she uses her platform Rooted in Service and her new activity book Brave Like Chewie to support military children.  WPDE
  • Marlisa Small and Kathy Heagan from the North Myrtle Beach Women’s Club are planning a Domestic Violence Walk event to support survivors. Christine interviewed them to share details and explain how the event will raise awareness + encourage community participation.  WFXB Fox TV
  • The Grand Strand Down Syndrome Society will host its 13th Buddy Walk fundraiser and festival at Grand Park in Market Common on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hundreds of visitors will join to enjoy inflatables, carnival games, live entertainment and more — all to support programs for people with Down syndrome.  My Horry News

  • Planned peaceful protests will be held this Saturday across the Grand Strand and Pee Dee. In Myrtle Beach, demonstrators will gather at Chapin Memorial Park (1-6pm) while groups including Indivisible, Public Citizen, ACLU and American Federation of Teachers host the No Kings Day of Peaceful Action events.  WFXB Fox TV

  • Wired LLC celebrated its six-year anniversary yesterday—marking six years of service and growth as the company reflected on its journey and future plans.  WMBF News
  • Aldi will open its first Georgetown County store in Pawleys Island at 75 Petigru Drive on Oct. 30. The store will host a preview day on Oct. 29 and offer giveaways including golden tickets worth up to $100, a chance to win a $500 gift card, and free reusable shopping totes.  The Post and Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Myrtle Beach Jazz Festival is set to take place this weekend—rain or shine, the free event will feature outdoor concerts where fans should bring their own chairs or towels. Held at 2501 North Kings Highway near the Convention Center, the festival will begin on Friday with acts including Paula Atherton and Devon Campbell and continue with more performances on Saturday and Sunday.  WFXB

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new report shows South Carolina ranks 12th from the bottom in the US for worker benefits in 2025—workers spend 14% of their median income on health plans and record a job satisfaction score of 27.3. The report also found that despite limited benefits, wage disparity indicates relatively fair pay compared to other states.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Myrtle Beach city leaders approved two ordinances on Oct. 14 to ease downtown parking issues. One ordinance forms a public-private partnership with First Methodist Church to add 40 parking spaces—reserved during church events—and the other gives the city manager authority to suspend paid parking for 120 days to support local business.  My Horry News
  • Horry County Solid Waste Authority proposed cutting recycling center hours to 5:30 p.m. from 7 p.m.—staffing issues and concerns over cross-county dumping were discussed, and a full council vote will follow with changes set for January.  WPDE
