COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ken Chaney and Darry Del Corro spoke in the studio about the upcoming Pickleball with the Stars event, which will take place on Oct 25 at 9:30 a.m. at the J. Bryan Floyd Rec Center in North Myrtle Beach—where music, entertainment, pickleball and a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Pickleball Complex will be featured.  WFXB Fox TV
  • Members of the Burgess community are voicing concerns over a possible rezoning near Blackmoor golf course and St. James High School by Bolton & Menk that may allow 2000 homes — nearly doubling the current density — and bring increased traffic, flooding, and strain on schools and emergency services. The proposal has not been formally submitted to Horry County, so its timeline remains unknown.  WMBF News
  • Over the weekend, The Patch at Broadway debuted on the lawn between PopStroke and Broadway Theater in Key West Village at Broadway at the Beach, offering a free seasonal event with a pumpkin patch, kid’s hay maze, seasonal photo ops and complimentary children's activities including face painting, character meet and greets and balloon art that will run every Saturday in October from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  WFXB Fox TV

  • The Boardwalk Comic Con took place at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Oct. 6 and brought fans together to enjoy comic art and pop culture. Organizers said the event was a first-time effort that may grow in the future—fueling more local gatherings.  WMBF News
  • Lakieta will perform her 90-minute tribute show Always Celine at the Greg Rowles Legacy Theatre on Oct 12 at 7:00 p.m. at 701 Main Street in North Myrtle Beach—she will sing popular Celine hits such as My Heart Will Go On, The Power of Love, and Because You Loved Me.  WFXB Fox TV
  • Vision Arts Gallery of Myrtle Beach has opened to showcase regional artists and offer art classes, and it is located in the Arts and Innovation District — a hub for new creativity. The gallery will hold its ribbon cutting on Oct. 16 at 4:30 p.m. while a Murder Mystery Scavenger Hunt among galleries will begin on Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. at The Tasting Room.  WPDE

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in South Carolina fell 3.7 cents per gallon in the last week and now average $2.75 based on a survey of over 3,000 stations by GasBuddy. Prices are down 5.4 cents from a month ago and nearly 7 cents lower than last year—figures that show a steady decline for motorists.  WPDE

  • Wade DeFelice, a junior at Socastee High, shines in swimming, lacrosse, and Mock Trial—using lessons of hard work and resilience from his grandfather to overcome injuries and balance academics with sports.   • North Myrtle Beach voters will choose a new mayor on Nov. 4 as Mayor Marilyn Hatley retires after 24 years and candidates including Mayor Pro Tem J. Baldwin, former city manager Mike Mahaney and council member Trey Skidmore take the field; three city council seats are also contested due to incumbent Nikki Fontana not filing for re-election. Registered voters may cast ballots in their precincts with early voting from Oct. 20 to 31 and a registration deadline on Oct. 4.  My Horry News

  • Grand Strand Health held a groundbreaking ceremony on Oct.2 for its new 24-hour emergency room at 4533 Wesley Road in Murrells Inlet—marking a $17 million project aimed at improving care for local residents.
