GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Myrtle Beach City Council approved a 30-year lease deal with the Pelicans that sets a graduated annual rent starting at $750,000 and rising to $950,000 in later years + the agreement includes $20 million in stadium improvements for Pelicans Ballpark, while Horry County Council must still vote to complete the deal. The lease, which follows months of uncertainty about the team’s future, will keep the minor league Cubs affiliate in Myrtle Beach for many years.  My Horry News
  • Myrtle Beach International Airport reminds travelers to update their IDs before May 7 as TSA will enforce REAL ID rules for all passengers 18 and older—those without a REAL ID or an approved alternative may face delays or extra screening at security checkpoints. Officials urge residents to check their documents now to avoid boarding issues in the coming days.  My Horry News
  • City officials in North Myrtle Beach met in Pinopolis to review short-term rental regulations after residents complained about noise, parking, and disturbances. They stressed that any new rules—such as requiring permits and a local contact for rentals—will monitor issues without restricting homeowners, with no ordinance set for May 5 and changes not taking effect until January 1, 2026.  My Horry News
  • Myrtle Beach City Council passed the first reading of a 20 year lease for the Pelicans stadium by a five—to—two vote Tuesday morning, making the team pay for MLB-required improvements costing $20 million and setting annual payments of $750,000 for the first 10 years and $850,000 for the next 10. Horry County Council discussed the lease agreement Tuesday night.  WPDE
  • North Myrtle Beach’s proposed 2026 budget will upgrade its public safety with $1.5 million for new police surveillance cameras and major fire station investments including $12 million for a new facility and funds for new fire trucks — the plan also calls for hiring additional firefighters and updating police vehicles.
