ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Ron Holt, a forester with the South Carolina Forestry Commission, said that the Carolina Forest wildfire still smolders because the wet soil stops oxygen from reaching the plants fast—letting the deep fire burn slowly. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Myrtle Beach police announced the return of the Summer Emergency Vehicle Access Plan this summer — a measure to improve emergency response times and officer visibility. Under the plan, the northbound lane of Ocean Boulevard from 9th Avenue North to 16th Avenue North will close every Friday and Saturday night from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. — the section between 8th and 9th Avenue North will also close in both directions for emergency vehicles.  WMBF News
  • Horry County officials asked SLED and Gov. Henry McMaster to review the 2023 shooting case of North Myrtle Beach businessman Scott Spivey when his death on Camp Swamp Road raised concerns that key evidence was overlooked—county administrator Barry Spivey and Council Chairman Johnny Gardner urged renewed investigation.  WPDE
  • A report from WMBF News shows that on January 30th, FBI and SLED agents searched former councilman Orton Bellamy’s home on the 1200 block of 13th Avenue in Conway as part of a public corruption case involving threatening letters—SLED closed its part while the FBI investigation remains ongoing.  WMBF News
