COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ben and Jerry's is hosting its annual Free Cone Day in Myrtle Beach as it partners for the 17th year with the Grand Strand Miracle League to support free sports programming for people with disabilities. The event runs from noon to 8 p.m. at several locations including Broadway at the Beach where each scoop is expected to prompt a donation of at least one dollar and could raise up to 13,000 dollars.  WPDE
  • Community members will gather at Pelicans Stadium on Monday, April 14 to honor the Covington Drive wildfire first responders—food will be complimentary for first responders from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and special guests including Congressman Russell Fry and local officials will join the event for live entertainment and support.  WPDE

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Trader Joe’s confirmed its new Myrtle Beach store location and said the store will open soon — a step in the company’s plan to expand locally.  WMBF News
  • Frank Boulineau III runs Boulineau’s Foods Plus in Cherry Grove where the store began as a small grocery in 1948 and has grown into an 80,000 square foot outlet with a deli, bakery, seafood counter and more. The business hosts weekly card games and beach cleanups plus it has earned awards for its customer-focused service.  My Horry News

CRIME NEWS

  • At 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Charles Jones was fatally shot by his roommate after an argument at their Bay View Drive home in the Green Sea area—police are investigating the case.  WMBF News

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Myrtle Beach Food Truck & Music Festival will run from Friday, April 11th to Sunday, April 13th at 2501 N. Kings Hwy—featuring over 55 food trucks, vendors and live music by Mariah Faith, Warrick McZeke and Julio & The Saltines with tickets at $10 per day.  WPDE

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A video showed a brush fire near the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk on April 7th, and fire officials arrived to monitor the situation—no details on damage or injuries have been released.  WMBF News
  • The Covington Drive wildfire in Carolina Forest is 90% contained, the South Carolina Forestry Commission said. Fire crews have battled the 2059 acre blaze since early March and continue daily mop-up and monitoring — urging non-residents to avoid the area.  WPDE

HEALTH NEWS

  • The South Carolina Department of Public Health celebrated progress during National Public Health Week while stressing that more work is needed to improve health for all residents. The agency’s efforts raised the state ranking from 44 to 37 and will launch three mobile health units in May while opening a new lab in 2026.  WPDE

  • The Myrtle Beach Pelicans season opener is tonight at 7:05 p.m. where fans will enjoy a baseball game ending with a Post-Game Fireworks Extravaganza & kids 12 and under running the bases after the game.  WPDE
