Press Association awards in 2024 for its local coverage and a first-place award for its 'Beach Blitz' football magazine. The awards honored its work in government, sports and feature reporting — noting achievements by Managing Editor Tommy Cardinal and reporter Joe Wedra.

The inaugural Conscious Soul Festival continues at The Market Common in Myrtle Beach this weekend with music, art and holistic healing.

Today the festival runs until 5 p.m. and offers live music, vendors, drum circles, group yoga and free Reiki—which includes a kids’ area with crafts and bubbles.

Registration is open for the Military Appreciation Days Parade at The Market Common at 10 a.m. on May 24.

The parade will be followed by a picnic at Grand Park—additional events include a Veterans’ March to be scheduled, a Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony on May 26 at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, and a brass concert on May 27 at General Robert Reed Recreation Center.

On Friday at 1:32 p.m., a Cadillac SUV hit a 2003 Honda moped on Sea Mountain Highway near Morgan Avenue in Horry County, causing injuries to the moped driver who later died, according to Master Trooper Brandon J.

Bolt with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Horry County Fire Rescue said six people were taken to the hospital after a crash Friday night — the victims are now receiving treatment.

On April 4, Myrtle Beach Elementary students went fishing at Grand Park in Market Common with officers from the Myrtle Beach Police Department during the annual Cops n Bobbers event.

Teachers selected about 20 students to learn fishing and build trust with law enforcement—students received gear to help continue their interest in outdoor activities.

Officials from the South Carolina Forestry Commission and law enforcement said rising trespassing and off-road vehicle use near the Covington Drive fire put people at risk while crews worked to contain the blaze—which was 85% contained as of March 27.

They urged non-residents to avoid the area and respect private property to support safe operations.

City officials said the Jake Abraham Transfer Station on Mr. Joe White Avenue Extension in Myrtle Beach will close Monday for repairs and be demolished and rebuilt—this work is expected to take three weeks while residents may drop off items at the Horry County Solid Waste Authority on 1886 Highway 90.

A Surfside Beach post office on Highway 17 North was dedicated to Nancy Yount— the first woman to serve as a Capitol Police officer and a devoted public servant.

State Rep. Russell Fry gave opening and closing remarks at the event to honor her legacy.
