  • Residents gathered at the Horry County Solid Waste Authority meeting to voice concerns over a proposed landfill expansion that may affect local waste management + officials promised to review the feedback from the session.  WPDE

  • Conway and Horry County fire crews are on scene at the HGTC campus today after an apparent fire was reported (officials are investigating the cause).  WPDE

  • The museum will host its third annual Oysters & Art Festival on Saturday, Feb. 14 from noon until 4 p.m. at Nance Plaza behind Grand Strand Brewing Company, featuring local artists, live music + hands-on children's projects that support its art programs.  WPDE

  • Horry County board chairman David Cox confirmed on Tuesday, Jan. 27 that he will not seek reelection because of his age and the job's demands after 18 years of service + primary elections for a new board chair will be held in June.  My Horry News

  • Aynor woman won $500,000 after scratching a $10 Ruby Red Treasures lottery ticket at Tiger Market #11 on Highway 501. Her win comes as a rare stroke of luck similar to a win at Aynor Food Market in 2023.  WPDE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace introduced a bill (the No Tax on Boat Loan Interest Act of 2026) that would let taxpayers deduct interest paid on loans for American-made recreational boats up to $10,000 per year until 2028, though the benefit phases out for higher incomes, supporting local coastal marine businesses.  WPDE
  • A portion of Oak Street is closed for improvements near the city services building and Arts + Innovation District, with work starting Jan. 20 and continuing through late summer.
